When my older siblings were children they were taught to cover their eyes and ears and hide under desks in the event of a nuclear attack. Now, you would be hard-pressed to find a single human being willing to talk in an ordinary conversation about the fact that the Russians have docked warships in Cuba today and have a nuclear-powered sub off the same coast. By far, much worse a situation than that old phantom “The Cuban Missile Crisis” of the 1960s. What should be THE topic of conversation is faced with silence. We’ve reached the stage of being struck dumb perhaps.
