Here is an exercise in understanding something basic. It does not matter what political party you may or may not support:

Let’s say we’re in a country and in that country if you were someone who disagreed with government in any capacity you face fines, censorship, seizure or freezing of assets, sometimes jail, certainly ridicule by your government. There will be, in other words, bad consequences for you. 

Let us then say that if you agree with the government you are pretty much left alone to carry on your life without harassment, and if an important person to any degree, given privileges, assets, money, protection, recognition, and power. There are, in other words, only good things for you. The consequences of your favour works in your favour.

Let us then say you are government itself and everything you do that is dubious or wrong or mistaken, brings absolutely no consequences whatsoever… What country would you be living in? What time in history perhaps?

It is not complicated. Those who have eyes will see.
